BMW had already priced the 2011 535i and 550i, but left us wondering about a replacement for the naturally-aspirated 528i. It'll go on sale along side its brothers costing $45,425, a reduction versus last year's car...

      Cheaper, and uglier, makes sense.

Sat in one recently and I must say the interior seemed like a significant improvement!

So this iteration is uglier than its predecessor?

Apparently someone forgot to wipe the sleep from their eyes when they woke up.
I think the 5 series has become the red-headed stepchild of the bmw lineup.

They were using alumninum somewhere to save weight before. The subframes, maybe?
They ditched it for this gen as I recall, so that's some of the cost savings.

Full frontal may be this car's worst angle, but I'd still take that over the Dame Edna predecessor.

cowl forward was all aluminum alloy. This one only the shock towers. I think every BMW subframe is alum.

In terms of looks, this is a downgrade.
Usually I like either the front or back of new BMWs, but in this case neither stands out.

In person, this car looks perfectly proportioned, and more conservative than the old car. But the older version now looks decidedly dated, just because it stood out so much.
Unlike the 5GT, which looks okay in pictures, but looks like a horses butt in real life...

They just need to equip it with proper wheels.
It is a very good looking body for people who have some taste.

From the BMW press release: "Lightweight materials are used to balance the vehicle. Components such as doors, hood, front fenders, and suspension assemblies are made of aluminum."
And in regards to the manual being offered with all engines, that's true. There will also be a 550i M Sport that'll have a manual, along with all sorts of M apperance and suspension goodies.

man, some of you guys just like to complain for the sake of complaining.
first, everybody was crying because Bangle ruined the iconic e39 look with the e60
now the 2011 5 series looks bad compared to the e60.
      aahhh
I've seen the car in person and I think it looks phenomenal. Very clean design. Reminds me of the pre-face lifted e46 and how clean and muscular it looks.

$45k for 200 hp, sounds like typical BMW robbery. I can't believe they even still offer a 528i. Guess some people just have to have to have a BMW, no matter what's under the hood.
that said, I'm just fine with the styling, I think it looks great. But the 3.0 turbo should absolutely be the base engine in this car, in this price range.

You are only 20% off on the car's power (it has 240hp) and some people still like the non-FI BMW engines as they are much more fuel efficient and reliable. It still gets 0-60 in 6.6sec which is far from fast, but not embarrassing by any means.
