holy crap; an aston martin...smart car!
don't know if i like though. good city car i guess, but all it is is a boosted smart car with a name plate.
yeah, i like it, but it's definitely not for me.

Any car which holds together for a whole race is too heavy.

wow. 1.3L 98bhp engine and the car would cost $33,000 USD. it'll never sell.

Nope. Only available to Aston Martin owners.
Anyway, it'll probably be insanely expensive for what it is so "anyone" likely wouldn't buy a 25,000 GBP Toyota iQ.

But what does the damn thing cost... $30k? More?
Sorta defeats the 'purpose' of a smart car. Its supposed to be dirt cheap transportation.

It's for Aston owners to drive around their estates. It will also bring up the average MPG for their fleet.

Why?
Another answer to a question that was never asked.
Is there no one at Aston Martin who thinks this will dumb down the brand?
Is there that much demand for Smart-esque type vehicles that a British luxury brand has to put in their two bits?
Will they try to market this car as the next ride of James Bond?
"Bringing touch sensitive pop out door handles to the masses"...should be one of their taglines.
So instead of taking on Porshe, BMW and M-B, Aston Martin wants to go head to head with Toyota in the city car market.
I for one am against the Cygnet. It does not belong under the Aston Martin mark. It would be like Cadillac putting their touch on the Aveo or Cruze when it comes out.

1. It's not a Smart, it's a Toyota iQ
2. Smarts aren't for dirt cheap transport
3. The purpose is to raise the fleet fuel economy numbers for Aston
4. It's also meant as a fashion accessory for image-conscious (is there any other type?) Aston buyers who want to appear/be green
Edit:
A lot of you guys are really dumb. Will Aston's "production" of the Cygnet make the DBS less desirable? Everyone here wacks it to the R8, but the same company sells A3 1.9 TDIs with cloth seats and 15" wheels. Did the Taurus make the Ford GT less desirable? Does the Fiat Punto make the Enzo less badass?

it's a Toyota iQ, so it has perfectly fine collision protection.
it's only supposed to be sold to Aston owners, so the General Public wont' be buying it... yet. And ocmpared to the cost of the Aston they are already supposed to have, it IS "dirt cheap." (while still trimmed and detailed like an Aston).
it also avoids the congestion charges for entering London and will be able to be parked in London in a way that full size Astons often aren't(as anyone who watched Top Gear when they tried to park in London saw). It also is kind of a necessity for an independent luxury car maker who wants to sell in reasonable volumes meet CO2 and fuel mileage fleet standards and still remain alive in the market. Don't blame Aston, blame regulators that made something like this necessary.
Personally, I like it. Much better looking than the bland Toyota it's based on:

These things will be Summer shopping vehicles all over the Hamptons. Do $600 Gucci change purses sell? This thing will be a hit.

This is stupid. Ferrari doesn't have to as they are owned by Fiat, so every Enzo is countered by a goddamn Punto in the market!!!

What part of this is not sinking into your goddamn heads????

Way to talk before you think. How many idiots can be in one thread?
This car helps Aston Martin balance out their required MPG targets.
Aston Martin determind that many of their customers have a secondary city car, such as a Smart, to haul from point A to B. Hence they created the Cygnet, to keep customers within the brand.
It is only available to owners of Aston Martins. The Cygnet is an accessory that comes with your Vantage, like an umbrella or a set of luggage.

i'd rock it if i have the cash

26. 03-02-2010 10:27 AM #25
I would rock one too. I just don't agree with having to be a current Aston Martin owner in order to be eligible to buy one. At $30K +, I wouldn't foresee mass consumers clamoring to own one, even if they were able. I would think higher income shoppers would go for this thing; the kind of people that drive cars like the S-Class and 7-series. Would it be so damaging to Aston Martin's image to have a Cygnet parked next to a 750Li or S550?
