      i'm starting to realize that i'm gonna need a 30 car garage sooner or later. I have too many cars that i want to own, from older porsche's, e36 m3's, to modern day sports cars.
      I started this thread as i was in my dad's old neighborhood and i remember in his condo complex back in the early 90's, his lawyer neighbor had a red carrera 4 and i got a ride in it, i was in shock and awe, it was the coolest car in the world to me.
      The prices seem fair, enough to enjoy the car and sell it, and not lose much.
      So for those who have experience with the N/A cars, even turbos, post pics, experiences etc.
      How is the performance of the older n/a 964's? still must be a fun car to drive, how's the sound from inside the cabin?

      they are good cars but they leak... just make sure the updates have been done and get a PPI.
      I vote for a 964 + TPC blower kit
      Porsches and VWs.

      964's... those are the last of the ones that are air, I mean oil cooled, right?
      Friend of mine had a turbo one for a while. What I thought was a FMIC was actually the oil cooler. The intercooler laid in the spoiler on the back. Was a cool bit of kit, but damn the oil changes.

      Me too. There's not much I want more than a nice, clean 964.

      993 was the last aircooled generation.

      notorious for leaks, later cars are much nicer (headgaskets are nice), IMO best looking generation of the 90s

      The 964 is the last air/oil-cooled that retains the classic front wings of the 911 and first generation to offer AWD. You can find a nice example C2 or C4 for $25-30K. You'll have to spend more for the Turbo, RS America, Roadster, and 1994 widebody. The rule of thumb in the 964 world is to plan on spending a minimum of $25K for a nice car (i.e., if you pay $20K, budget an additional $5K for additional repairs). They were offered from MY 1989-1994 in the US. Keep them well-maintained and they will treat you well, but maintenance is expensive unless you can wrench yourself.
      These are driver's cars and the adage is true: there is no substitute for the visceral driving experience. Center of gravity is low, handling is sublime, all accompanied by the right amount of mechanical sounds, exhaust notes, and a hint of oil and old-car smell. It's not for everyone.
      There is a lot of info on Rennlist in the 964 forum (rennlist.com) and also John Miles' 964 site (http://www.porsche964.co.uk/). Good luck on your search.

      is the white car yours? if so is the "widebody" standard on the c4 or did you have those done? beautiful car btw

      Yes, this is my car. All MY 1994 C4s sold in the US are widebodies. Most estimate that a total of 238 were sold in the US. You can find some info here: http://www.c4widebody.com/Information.html
      Porsche also offered a 30th Anniversary Jubilee edition in Europe. Only 911 of those were sold. The car in the first post is a Jubi widebody.

      Here are a few pics that I'm sure I've posted before!






      This is the first Pcar I've owned. Always wanted one since I was small. To me, the 964 is the epitome of porsche styling. Also, as mentioned, it makes all the right noises and smells that realy get a car guy going.
      I drove a new 2009 Cayman S yesterday and althought the car is amazing, I like the feel of my 964 more. Its just more raw and unrefined.
      Also, I love the size of the 964. If any of you have ever sat in a pre 996 car, you'll appreciate the close quarters inside.
      Anyways, as mentioned, prices are attractive however maintenance can be very expensive.

      Yep, the size is one of my small gripes about the 996/997 that shows my age. Seeing one next to a 993 or earlier car, they look huge. Then again, at 6' I used to be tall, and we now seem to be a land of giants, so maybe that's why.

      I like how in my 964 if I have my hand on the steering wheel and extend my fingers, they touch the windshield. Such a cool driving experience!
