My friends have one, they love it. They even belong to a club and have occosional meet ups. From what I remember them telling me, they were designed by Aircraft engineers in the 60's after they were layed off. The overall design is very areo dynamic and features a 455-powered front-drive Oldsmobile Toronado V8. The rear had 2 sets of wheels, which have auto leveling air suspension. The low to the ground stance makes for easy entry. I believe they came in two different lenghs, constructed of fiberglass shell on a frame. Rad names like Palm Beach or Sequoia blazened on the sides. All in all they seem like they were way ahead of their time...
Pretty cool photo stream here (cool 70's brochure too!): http://flickr.com/photos/kbree...94327/

Why do I have the suspicion that these things could have some WICKED lift-off oversteer?

Hmm, never knew these were FWD. Though it makes sense, as I saw one converted into an enclosed Porsche car carrier at an event at Summit Point.

I'm pretty sure it is. Everytime I see one of these I think of Stripes

Psycho: You just made the list, buddy. Also, I don't like no one touching my stuff. So just keep your meat-hooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I'll kill you. And I don't like nobody touching me. Any of you homos touch me, and I'll kill you.
      Sgt. Hulka: Lighten up, Francis

haha, anyways. I also had a toy one of these from Hess gas station working lights and all, thing's probably worth something now.

Price varies widely depending on condition. There's lot of **** to go wrong in an RV (think of everything that goes bad in your house, and everything that goes bad in your car, and combine the two plus some), and these things are pretty old.
I've seen them go on Ebay for less than $2k and more than $6k. A lot of the larger vintage RVs are taking a hit right now because of fuel prices. A 455 in a car was probably luck to get 12MPG. In these RVs you're probably looking at somewhere between 6 and 8MPG depending on how well it's tuned, and the terrain.

It looks to me like GM's Bus and Coach division borrowed from the GMC motorhome's design for the RTS series buses. You can see some of that shape in the RTS.
