I have an 82 Convertable that has had a mid-80's HT code engine installed in it by the DPO (dumb-a-- previous owner), but the owner retained the 1.7l dipstick. The dipstick is extremely loose and bounces around, allowing some oil to bounce out (no, this is not from pressure). I assume this is not the proper dipstick for the car? If so, what is the proper dipstick?
The local VW dealer parts guy said I probably need the same dipstick as the JH engine, but without the orange funnel. This would seem to be WAY too long of a dipstick, and nothing for the orange handle to seat into.
