Washington, D.C. – XM, the nation’s leading satellite radio service with more than 7.6 million subscribers, today announced plans to add two of American Public Media’s award-winning programs, “A Prairie Home Companion” and “Marketplace,” to the XM Public Radio (XMPR) lineup.
Hosted and produced by bestselling author and National Humanities Award-winner Garrison Keillor, “A Prairie Home Companion,” now in its 33rd year of production, features comedy sketches, music, and Keillor's signature monologue, “The News from Lake Wobegon.” Beginning March 3, “A Prairie Home Companion” will air live every Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. ET on XMPR (XM 133), with additional encores airing during the week. “A Prairie Home Companion's” season consists of 32 live shows broadcast from St. Paul, New York and other locations across the country.
“Now XM listeners can enjoy even more popular public radio programming,” said Eric Logan, executive vice president of programming for XM. “‘A Prairie Home Companion’ and the portfolio of ‘Marketplace’ programs complement the high-quality content already available on XM Public Radio, including the award-winning ‘Bob Edwards Show.’”
The XMPR schedule also will include “Marketplace,” an entertaining high-energy program on business and finance. One of the most popular series in the distinguished public radio news line-up, “Marketplace” will begin airing weekdays, at 7 p.m. ET beginning Monday, March 5 on XMPR.
Hosted by Kai Ryssdal, regular program features include business headlines; coverage from “Marketplace” bureaus in Los Angeles, Washington, DC, New York, Shanghai, and London; commentaries; closing financial indices; topical coverage of financial trends; and the business aspects of politics, health, sports, the arts, education, and travel.
“Marketplace Money,” an hour-long weekend program focusing on personal finance, and “Marketplace Morning Report” also will be added to the XMPR schedule. “Marketplace Money” will air Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET on XMPR starting March 3; “Marketplace Morning Report” will air weekdays beginning March 5.
In addition to “A Prairie Home Companion” and the “Marketplace” portfolio, American Public Media programs “The Story,” “Weekend America,” “Sound Opinions” and “Performance Today Weekend” will join the XMPR lineup this spring. American Public Media’s “Air Talk,” “Pipedreams,” “Speaking of Faith,” “Saint Paul Sunday,” “American RadioWorks,” “The Writer’s Almanac” and “Composers Datebook” are currently part of the XMPR programming schedule.
