Bentley Manual -- definitely used, but no rips. $50 shipped.
I also have a handful of pieces left from this car; all new in packaging.
Strut mounts, CRP/REIN brand. $14 the pair, includes...
Other questions you might help out with:
Any estimate of the cost for rebuilding the heads if I take them to a machine shop?
Is there a respectable vendor for rebuilt heads? Any pitfalls to...
The timing belt in my 98 A4 30v broke -- at about 40,000 miles since it was changed, so I'm not happy about that.
Had it towed to a shop, and they are quoting me obscene prices. Bent exhaust...
So a couple of taps with a hammer unstuck the driveshaft, and I've bought a box of bolts from McM.
Trans is almost out -- I have the slave cyl. out and everything else disconnected.
Used once (two struts worth; that still counts as "once", right?)
Okay, got started on it this weekend. I got in a little more than a day of work, and got pretty far,
Broke all 4 bolts on the exhaust couplings behind the cats (no big deal, though; it came apart...
If you follow the Bentley through, you get all kinds of cross references.
Part of it goes like this.
Remove starter (see electrics)
To remove starter, remove alternator (see alternator pages)...
Thanks for the tips -- I like the idea of keeping the clutch slave in place & disconnecting the hose.
Other than the triple square bits, any special tools needed?
I have a '98 V6 Quattro. 119k miles.
Clutch appears to have died. (Clutch slips at half throttle, maybe less. So the disc is worn out?)
There's a decent shot that the shop it was at all week...
This tensioner is the biggest part of the upgrade from a regular kit to a deluxe kit, and that's a lot more than $50.
Did the timing belt on mine back in the fall with a kit from Blauparts. Kit came with the late, 3-bolt tensioner. My '98 uses the earlier 2-bolt style.
So this is a 3-bolt tensioner for a 98.5...
Yep -- that's one of the plans for this weekend.:cool::thumbup: Thanks!
Well, I've fixed problems 1, 3, and 4.
It was a mechanical problem -- the switch wasn't seated completely, and a little jiggle of the key lined things up correctly.
Still left with problem #2,...
Sorry -- it's a '98.
There are two ways to take that -- and I'm not sure which one is right.
Do you mean that vagcom is the only way to program remotes -- that the instructions...
Interestingly, I used to have a problem with the radio switching off after an hour, even while the ignition was on.
Now *that* problem has gone away, but these new ones have cropped up.
So I replaced the ign. switch today.
When I re-attached the battery and started testing things, it seems a little screwy.
1. Any time the driver's door is open, there is a dinging sound...
I got a proper socket for the t30 torx.
That made it easy ... to strip the living bejeezus out of the overtighened/loctited bolts.
Well, I'm not giving up that easy.
