New generations may come, but the B5 S4 remains an icon in the enthusiast and tuning world. It's 2.7-liter biturbo V6 was highly tunable and its small size, smallest ever for an A4, put it in a sweet spot for the tuning crowd just barely larger than a modern WRX or EVO. Even better, depreciation has made the first S4 highly affordable.
There's a side effect to this. Plenty of enthusiasts have kept these cars not only running but generously upgraded. Take for example Mike Vettrone's Imola Yellow 2002 sedan. It was recently featured as a reader ride over on Audizine. More after the jump.
