Flash back to September. We were on location at MTM's headquarters outside of Ingolstadt and being given a guided tour of the facility by their able staff when we spotted something truly different looking on the Audi tuner's four-wheel dyno. The car had a silhouette of an Audi A5 though a bit more animated. We spotted the name 'Benero' on the car and asked our tour guide if it would be okay to take some photos. We were asked not to do so, so we've been waiting to see more about the voluptuous two-door. We were waiting, that is, until this turned up on Auto Gespot.
The Gespot story is a bit of a mystery in and of itself. The photos came into that website's posession in a mysterioius fashion, though they're claiming to have details. Supposedly the Benero was an idea hatched out of the minds of some asphault factory workers over a pint and, in cooperation with a UK university, they developed the car. When it goes into production the car is expected to sport 525 hp thanks to an MTM supercharger affixed to the top of its Audi 4.2-liter V8. Supposedly only 50 will be built.
From the outside, the bespoke car is very different from the S5. Nearly every body panel looks replaced except the doors and roof. Even the side glass rear quarter windows have been changed.
Inside, the Audi DNA is more apparent. Many of hte components of the S5 remain while creative use of vents from the TT help differentiate it from the production coupe.
