Ive got days worth of lowrider material on my photobucket account, but this is my absolute favorite.

It could be used for a great "pimp my ride" parody caption: "Yo dawg I heard you like lowriders, so we put a lowrider in your lowrider so you can lowride while you lowride."

Most of those are not traditional lowriders, but I can appreciate the branching out.

Personally, I think the term "lowrider" should be reserved for '63-'76 Impalas only, but that's just me.

I disagree vehemently. They DID NOT start Lowriding. Nor did they alone build the scene into what it is today. Look no further than your traditional Bombs for that. Thank those guys - especially '30s & '40s Chevy's, Pontiacs & Oldsmobiles being built from the late '30s on. Hell - look no further than Whittier Boulevard in the '50s & '60s and Bellflower, CA as well... the history of Lowriding is a rich & deep one. One that should by NO means be confined to "just Impalas". That's silly talk. I spent a bunch of time in So-Cal and I respect the hell out of the guys still keeping it true to it's roots. While a lot of the newer stuff isn't my style you can't deny the deep roots it has coupled with the immense talent *and large bankroll * it takes. I personally love traditional low's, bombs, bellflower customs, lead sleds... anything and everything.

Somewhere kicking around I've got a traditional vintage low rider hydraulic setup - being cast off airplane parts. Seriously. It's just waiting for the right project to come along.

Disagree all you want, that's still my opinion. I know about bombas, I know where the scene came from, I've spent plenty of time on Bellflower, Slauson, Sepulveda, Beach, etc. I also grew up in the Kustom scene in Portland, OR in the '70s.

All I'm saying is that when somebody says "lowrider", the first image that comes to my mind is a '71 Impala on gold 13" Daytons with spinners, gnarly Aztec-flavored murals on the hood and trunk, and really nasty velour interior.

That, in my opinion, is what makes any car scene work. I like what I like, you like what you like. I have a great deal of respect for most (well done) customized cars, regardless of the style.

How about a '61 Dodge for your vintage hydro setup? Don't see those every day!

I dunno, that last one seems a bit g-machine to me, but with different wheels it could def. be a lowrider, so I'll leave it.

 Re: (CasaDelShawn) »« »

Fair enough. I agree completely. The word means different things to different people. Impalas *definitely* make up a LARGE chunk of the scene, there's no denying that one.

That just goes to show the difference in the scenes you grew up with. The first image in my head when I hear 'lowrider' is a '38 Chevy sedan laying rocker. Two tone. Spots, rare GM & dealer accessories out the rear.

You may or may not have seen this build - but it's a hell of a nice rebuild on what many would consider junk. A bit (2 years) early, as it's a '61...but. He's building a pretty damn nice wagon too... found on the last few pages.

http://www.impalas.net/forums/showthread.php?t=686

And I agree. The '61 Dodge would be fun - the problem is there's a local guy building one. And more to the point.. I've done work on his car. Which brings me back to my stand by of a '63 Riv with a split 2"/3" chop. OR a '61-'63 'bird.
