We have no photos yet, but trust me we're staying on that. Audi AG released the first text via their PR outlets that highlights details of the new 3.0 TFSI engine. Despite rumors of turbocharging and combination turbo and supercharging like the Volkswagen TSI engine, the engine is definitely supercharged and combined with new direct injection technology. By the way, you'll note power levels reported in the article are low at 290hp. Bear in mind this is likely the A6 tune and not the S4, which is still expected to be 330-340hp. Don't be surprised either to see this engine go into the Q5 and replace the 3.6 in the Q7.

SWWEEEEEET it's exciting that we will have this engine in the A6 in just a few short months.i like how Audi is not trying to play horsepower wars with BMW and the 535i. They are getting similar power levels out of a smaller displacement engine and not using two turbo's + the extra hardware associated and fuel efficiency will probably be better in the Audi. right on Audi

The torque is an interesting point. Having a higher peak HP is an advantage on a dyno or in bragging rights, but the torque curve is what you see day-to-day as well as the fuel consumption.

be intersting to see the what the power delivery feels like. also exciting to see what will be available to pull more power on the aftermaket scene.

Isn't BMW's N54 engine also 3.0l displacement? Also toque on the N54 comes on earlier and last about the same or longer. Fuel consumption seems to be better on the N54. Looks like the N54 is a much better engine.

The N54 torque might come on a little earlier, but the supercharged torque will be there immediately. the N54 while having very little lag won't be as instantaneous as the supercharged Audi engine. How is the fuel consumption better with the BMW engine? BMW doesn't sell a 535i in Europe so it's hard to compare. Audi promises under 10 for pretty much all versions (S4 should be around 10) Some German magazine said about 9.5 for the A6. The 335i is rated @ 9.1 and the 335xi @ 9.7. The Audi A5 with the 3.2 FSI is rated @ 9.2 but gets better EPA than the 335i. The A6 will possibly get a little better mpg than the 535i. The two engines are really close on paper. Only real comparisons will show which one is better.

george....what size is the supercharger....im suspecting the tvs 1320 (same size as the one used in the toyota/trd aurion...any confirmation ??

What does really the T in TFSI mean? I always thought it was for Turbo, but that cant be right, since theres no turbo fitted in this engine.. Right?

It did stand for turbo. For whatever reason, it now simply denotes forced induction. A joke from someone at Audi was that it stands for thooper charger.
