Seven gears that shift at lightning speed without interrupting traction – Audi presents a new phase in the evolution of transmission systems. The seven-speed S tronic has an extremely dynamic, high-efficiency action. This new dual-clutch transmission is designed for use with a longitudinally installed engine and quattro all-wheel drive. It is suitable for a wide range of sporty models and will go into production in the second half of 2008. In addition to the new seven-speed S tronic, Audi offers a wide range of other transmission technologies, with an ideal solution for every need.
S-tronic doesn't get good ratings from companies like J.D. Power so I doubt it in normal cars like A4, but perhaps we could see it in cars like the S4 and S5. This is a European press release, so that should be considered as should news that Audi has a new updated Tiptronic that will go in our A4s instead of s tronic.
This theoretically could go into just about any longitudinal application short of the RS6 and V8/V12 TDIs since the torque limit is so high. Coincidentally the 550Nm limit is the same as the higher torque version of the 3.0TDI as used in the Q5 and Q7.
But I'm guessing we will see it in the sportier models first, i.e. A4/A5. Hopefully the thing about Americans not liking DSG/S Tronic shift quality in JDPower studies will not prevent it from coming over.
