Seven gears that shift at lightning speed without interrupting traction – Audi presents a new phase in the evolution of transmission systems. The seven-speed S tronic combines its dynamic working method with high efficiency. The new twin-clutch transmission is designed to work with longitudinally installed engines and the quattro all-wheel drive system, and its 550 Nm torque capacity makes it suitable for a wide range of sporty models. Audi will introduce the new S tronic into multiple model lines in series production during the course of this year.
That's about 404ft/lbs of torque. That covers a pretty good range of engines. Even the non-turbo V10 can be applied, so a R8 V10 could probably be on par with the Porsche Turbo, Corvette Z06 and GT-R in terms of accelleration.
Hopefully it will have a true overdrive gear. There is no need for a 450 horsepoew S8 to run 3,000 or so RPM for 75 mph cruise. You can get some great fuel economy savings on the EPA test with a low overdrive gear.

This place is is insane - the biggest complaint I hear in the Car Lounge is that VW's are too expensive when loaded up with options and yet when they want to decontent and lower the price, the complaints get even louder. You can't have it both ways.
DSG is the future of the gearbox, Audi will be the pioneer of putting S-Tronic into all of their vehicles. Just like Audi was the 1st to successfully adapting CVT into 01 C5 A6.
