Audi is presenting a revolution in the top class ñ the first 12-cylinder diesel engine in a high-performance roadgoing sports car. The V12 TDI with a displacement of six liters powers a concept car based on the Audi R8. This unit generates a huge 500 hp and 1,000 Newton-meters (737.56 lb-ft) of torque. Audi is writing a new chapter in diesel technology with this power unit. Equipped with the expertise that Audi has built up through its motor sport activities, the R8 TDI Le Mans in Brilliant Red embodies superb road handling, pioneering technology and fascinating design.
George: Will the front grille fit the R8? Will our friend OEM have them? Do you think the color is a bit too much for a production car? In Black/Black/Black it is difficult enough to avoid being spotted by the Gendarmes on the highway, or is this just a way to stand out in a place like Geneva which is loaded with eye candy? The simple grille, however, seems an improvement over the present R8, especially in States where one does not require a front plate. Thanks.
It's still concept form right now, though I wouldn't be surprised to see Audi do a mono grille (no crossbar) for the V10. That's a guess mind you, but it would make sense.
