Installation: Milltek Exhaust for B7 RS 4« »

Modifying a rare, ultra-high performance automobile is tricky business. This is especially true for the RS 4, as engineers at quattro GmbH outdid themselves developing the car: 19-inch wheels, 14.4-inch front cross-drilled rotors with eight-piston calipers, dynamic ride control and of course the high-revving (8,250 rpm) 420hp 4.2l V8 FSI engine. With a platform that has already been extremely tweaked, what else is there left to do?

Quick math says 400,000 kms is only like 5 miles, I'm not impressed.

Different dyno, but also I think Anthony's car may be having a vacuum issue with one of the opening inlets on the intake.

A dynopak is going to have significantly higher numbers than especially a mustang (which already reads lower than a dynojet) because they remove the wheels and bolt straight to the hubs.

I also do seem to be having some issues (as well as a number of other RS 4 owners) about the vacuum operated flap on the airbox. It seems that when it doesn't open over 5k RPM, you lose about 20-30 HP.

Why do you say that? The shop I went to had never installed an exhaust on an Audi before and they had it done in about 45 minutes. We started from the cats and worked backwards. I held the tips where I wanted them, and they tightened everything down. Done.

Glad to hear everything went well, there has been inconsistency with the fitment of milltek exhausts. The car looks incredible...enjoy!

Just to update everyone...

A few weeks ago I noticed a rubbing sound sometimes when going over bumps or when accelerating hard.

Turns out a couple of the exhaust clamps were hitting the stress frame that goes under where the cats meet the midpipe. Most likely the hangers needed to be adjusted higher, but I just removed the bar (it uses four T50 12-point Torx bolts) and added two washers between the bolt and the body and this provided enough clearance. Not a problem with the exhaust, just a little tweak that was needed after everything settled.
