The original B5 RS 4 is a captivating car for Audi enthusiasts. Considering it was the most advanced and hardcore of the B5 S4 line, combined with the fact that it was never sold in the North America, these cars carry plenty of cache amongst those looking to build the ultimate Audi. A few have built their own Avant and even sedan examples, and even fewer have tried to import the cars outright – a costly process on either count. Still, the most driven will find a way, so when one of the most driven approached us about building one of his own as the subject of a project series, it was simply an offer that was too good to pass up.

If you're not changing the color, it's still practically an entire respray coupled with some custom fabrication--easily ten. I was fortunate enough to sell the VRT Jetta this past fall which in turn has allowed me to fund most of this build.

The word 'texpert' is a billzcat1-original term; a conjunction of "Vortex" and "expert". Use it when presented with a united front of stupidity.

Hey Bill, if you have any suggestions or proposals, we're listening. Right now we're running a number of project cars, from OEM plus low-key to this conversion, etc. Active projects include a B7 S4, this B5 S4/RS4 conversion, Joe's TT Coupe, an NSU TTS Rebuild and incredibly inactive due to lack of time, my own 4000 quattro.

When JJ approached me with this project, I thought it to be a no-brainer. I know a lot of Audi enthusiasts hold a place in their hearts for the B5 S5, and would love to get their hands on an RS4. As the B5s have become affordable, investing $10K+ isn't all that odd for many people modding their cars, and if you do it right, the resale on the car should be much better than most $10K automotive modification strategies as RS4s are very hard to get ahold of in the USA. To me, that's pertinent. Given there's no guide right now to how to do such a conversion, this title (my decision) seemed to make sense.

Is there something you have in mind that you'd like to see us do? I'm open to suggestion.
