 Fourtitude: 2007 Audi S8 - First Drive« »

Dusseldorf, Germany - Robert De Niro had Audi fans in North America chomping at the bit when the S8 showed up in the 1998 movie ‘Ronin’, but they would have to wait until 2001 for the super-hot Q-ship finally landed here. The original S8 had the same 4.2 V8 as the A8, albeit massaged to 360-hp and rolling on larger 18-inch Avus wheels. Nobody ever called the first S8 tame, but outwardly the car wasn’t much different from a run-of-the-mill A8.

Audi won’t need Bobby Deniro to get the buzz out on their all-new uber-S. With a 450-hp 10-cylinder engine and absolutely mean-looking front fascia, the new S8 marks a significant change over the current A8 range, pushing the S-car envelope further than ever. There’s been plenty of excitement surrounding the new S8 since it made its surprise debut in Tokyo just a month ago... Full Story...

The S8’s dual-piston brakes at the front...

Sure looks like more than 2 from here.

That is by FAR the sharpest looking large sport sedan on the market!!! I love the look

I just wonder why Audi hasn't replaced the tiptronic with DSG. That seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm not sure I buy that one because the R-GT's that were shown at SEMA are putting out even more torque than this S8 and they have DSG trannys.

The S8 should really be a showcase for all of Audi's proprietary technology (FSI, Quattro, DSG, etc...). Maybe they're saving the DSG for an RS8

Those were also one-offs that won't ever get more than 100 miles on them, and will certainly never get presented for warranty work.

Hell, the Bugatti has DSG...but it also costs $1.4mil.

All the more reason to use it in an S8 and help defray some of the cost of development and production.

In spite of its sporting pretense and apparrent genuine ability, the S8 still seems to be leaning towards the luxury side of sport-sedans. I thought it might be closer to the new M5 in purpose and performance than it is. I can only guess (and hope) that Audi plans to build a new-generation RS6 with DSG (no slush box, please) to really give M5 owners/shoppers something to think about.
