      via Car and Driver
The SRT-fettled version of the Chrysler 300 was killed for the U.S. market after the 2014 model year, although it lived on in the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. But as of late, with the release of Dodge’s Hellcat Challenger and Charger, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and the Dodge Demon, big power has been a top priority at Fiat Chrysler. That’s what makes this 300 SRT mule with Demon wheels and tires so intriguing.

The test vehicle, spotted chillin’ in the open at a random apartment or condo complex, was wearing Nitto NT05R P315/40R-18 drag-radial rubber wrapped around the same type of wheels seen on Dodge Demon mules. The massive tires stuck out of the 300’s stock bodywork (like on the Demon mules), leading us to believe that this car could also receive wider fender flares like the Demon’s. Though the mule does have Brembo calipers providing the stopping power, the brake rotors appear to be smaller than those found on Hellcats and the Demon, and they have a different slot pattern as well.

According to our photographer, who followed the car for about 20 miles, the mule made Hellcat noises, sounds you’re likely familiar with if you’ve heard one in person. This, despite the fact that there are no noticeable scoops or intakes for extra cooling, which would hint at the presence of the monster engine. At minimum, this car could mean that Chrysler is gearing up to refresh the 300 SRT for the overseas markets where it’s still sold, bringing online a wide-bodied, 707-hp, Hellcat-powered version of the big sedan. (We nominate the name Chrysler 300 Visigoth.)

It goes without saying that we’d love to see this car represent the return of an SRT 300 to American shores, but that’s unlikely to happen. It could also just be an engineering mule never destined for production. But since we’ve already seen FCA create concepts for Ram and Jeep with the Hellcat engine—to say nothing of the production vehicles featuring the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8—we’re not ready to write off this mule just yet.

      Uhhhh, yes!
Keeping an eye on this one. I'll never get one, but I look forward to it's specs and most importantly, it's final look.

Yeah, that's badass of course, but how is that a "mule"? That looks like a legit prototype to me.

Haha could just be a poorly modded 300. How lit would TCL be if the magnum got the same treatment?

Probably wouldn't have manufacturer plates on it, in that case.

FCA can't be planning a high power 300. They would have started trolling us with teasers in 2016.

It could honestly be a mule for an upcoming version of another car, or just a Demon mule.

That being said.....Bring back the Fury name.

Mule works, because we're unsure on what this car even is, plus it's kinda cobbled together.

It's definitely not a Demon mule, and if it was a mule for something else I highly doubt they would go to the trouble of getting a 300 SRT body, stuffing a Hellcat motor in it, and putting those Demon wheels and brakes on.

Why not, manufacturers have extra shells laying around all of the time, and powertrain mules don't need disguised. Plus, there are parts bins similarities between the two models.

For example: This was a Delorean powertrain mule, when the Ford V6 was to be the plant of choice.

This is a Cadillac development mule, shoved under the skin of police package Chevy.

If I was an engineer at a major OEM with the ability to make the automotive media go apesh!t, I'd probably pull stuff like this on a daily basis.

What are we looking at here; a set of Demon wheels that they had laying around the shop someone bolted on before running home for lunch?

This is how the first Demon mules were:

I know how mules and prototypes work. If this was a mule for something else, we probably would be able to tell. If it was a mule for a Charger Demon, for example, they would use a Charger body... And that exists. It could be a stress test mule or something similar, but I don't think so.

It seems like more than that, as it has upgraded brakes and the photographer noted that it definitely seemed Hellcat-powered.

Could be legit, Interesting detail is the fact that the wheels have chrysler center caps.

I noticed that, too. They're also wheels that we've only seen on the Demon mules so far, they aren't what was shown on the production car.

I hope this car comes to fruition. I've always liked the design and the extra luxury inside compared to cars like the Charger and Challenger. The SRT version wasn't fast enough for me but a Hellcat powered 300 would be nice...

My money is on Chrysler trolling the media ... "Let's put this out there in plain sight and see what people say about it".

There's really not much other reason to do this. The cosmetic bits don't need to be put out in public to test fit and function. The Charger is the same car underneath, so they already know what those mechanical bits in that vehicle platform does.

      I say it's awesome.
