New Smoking Tire One Take posted today. This is nuts.

This BMW E39 M5 has had it's original 5.0L V8 removed, and instead sits a Toyota Supra's 2JZ Inline Six with a monstrous single turbocharger and a manual transmission. This setup is supposedly good for over 1,200 HP, though it is dialed back to 800 hp for road testing on pump gas. This car's owner, Cleve, is one of my favorite guests ever on our show, and this build is insane.

Awesome car. Some hilariously dumb youtube comments. Such as:

"Nobody has the right to **** up a car like this. Most western countries have banned such modifications, with very good reason."

Not a fan of the widebody, but the rest of it is pretty damn sweet.

That widebody does NOT do it any favors.

if anything it makes the car kind of . however 800hp out of a 2jz isnt that impressive. I have guys in my area pushing that with a 60mm turbo and e85 on a stock internals.

stock body would have been so much better, you can fit some good sized meat in those e39 fenders

but everything else is damn fine

It's dialed back, he said somewhere between 1,200 and 1,400 at the wheels when finished.

I cant listen to the video in case anyone things I'm just an arsehole haha but what does he mean when finished. my e30 will make 800hp.... when finished. The only thing in my book that counts is what it currently makes, not what it will or could make.

edit* and in no way shape or form am I being overly judgmental but it is the internet.. and no none of my cars can touch the hp this has...

I don't love the widebody, but totally get it given the car's intended purpose. Would love to see this do a flying mile. What an angry, angry engine.

I'd be more interested if they got 800hp out of the stock motor. Most 2Jzs that are boosted to the moon have horrible powerbands such that the additional power is kind of meaningless at real world speeds- the boost will come on so hard you will just generate tire smoke rather than forward motion. I suspect that's why this one has been dialed down to 800hp.

How about you just stop commenting until you can actually hear it then and make intelligent comments? I know, a novel idea.

It specifically says in the show notes, which I quoted, that it's dialed down for road testing on pump gas.

I'd rather have a stock one that's well maintained and unassuming looking. Sue me. Mojocoggo's M5 is perfect IMHO.

Same. Yes it will go fast. But there are faster cars out there still after all this work and some are probably cheaper too. This car is ugly, looks like a beater inside, etc. Stockish M5 is a well balanced car that can be used daily.

As always if the owner likes it, God bless.

      1) This car was purchased by the current owner/tuner with a 2J swap, which it sounds like they have fully redone/rebuilt
      2) 800 on pump gas (although the video says its running on E85?) seems pretty decent? And the motor is clearly built for four-figure HP numbers with the billet crank/rods/etc
      3) If they are building it to do flying mile type events, this makes a ton of sense rather than trying to built up a BMW S62 to insane power levels (especially given the car was purchased with the 2J swap already complete).

Then go start a thread about a stock M5 for everyone to discuss.

That's what they say. But after all that work, I doubt they would admit that the thing has a terrible power band. Just for reference, this is what an 800hp Supra power band looks like:

This is what an M5 stock motor power band looks like:

You have to hit almost 5k RPM before the 800hp 2JZ starts making more torque than the stock M5. No doubt the car is a beast, but I'm not sure it's what I would want in anything but a drag car.

Yep. I was here a few weeks ago getting them set up with a dealer account and this thing was there. It's only about 2 miles from me.
