If history is any indication - late June/early July.

I don't understand the dislike. I have to admit, VW stigma aside, for the price, the R a good mix of features, performance and utility. Most of my current "I'd drive that" options are northern $40ks/low $50k, and I just don't know if I want to spend that.

Yes, agree, completely, an SS at 20% off puts it in Golf R territory price wise - that's a different story. An SS without the red tag, even at invoice, is still another ~$8k.

I'm not a VW fanboi - any of their other current products...no thanks.

Kinda sorta a joke. Not ready to get back in bed with that company, though.

Unless the 7 is a yuge step up from the 6 R, it's not even close in terms of driving enjoyment anyway. For me, at least. Can't replicate the V8 lulz.

Put it this way, if that warranty extension filters down to the entire lineup, I'd be willing to consider them for a daily again in the future.

Errr. She wants an SS. Doesn't care about MSRP. I said f that we can wait. If it is late June we definitely can wait. I'll just borrow my brothers extra Volvo for two months.

QFT, although all of the internet forum hype got me to test drive one in the first place back in 2015 and also put the pressure on me when the sale hit this time.

Last night I put the car in track mode so I could enjoy a little more power oversteer. I've been holding off mostly because I want the tires to last more than 6 months. Unsurprisingly, it's such an easy car to drift. I'm one that actually found my air-cooled 911 pretty easy to control during mild-to-moderate oversteer, so I might be a bad sample, but with quick steering, a long wheelbase, and such a smooth power delivery, this thing doesn't need stability control on the street. It's only going to step out when you're wanting to, and it's super-easy to catch and dial it back in.

id agree with this statement at the end...

There's bound to be a bittersweet postscript to this story. In 10 years or so, I'm willing to bet that the stick-shift Chevy SS will command a healthy price in enthusiast circles. In 30 years, we'll point them out at car shows and rattle off the seemingly unbelievable facts. "They took a family sedan and slapped a naturally-aspirated V8, a six-speed stick, and magnetic ride in it," we'll tell each other. "The thing did 0-60 in four and a half seconds," we'll explain to our kids.
i think the undoing was a lack of visual appeal, and absolutely no promotion of the product like say dodge does w/ the 392's, etc.

I think the undoing was because the factory that makes them is shutting down. It was never planned to be a mass produced car, it was a limited run from the beginning.
