I'd still buy one with a ****ty 3/36 that most everyday basic "respected" manufacturers give you.
So you are saying that somebody living on a tight budget that requires a vehicle that needs to be reliable and get them to and from work with limited funds to shop for a new vehicle are not going to shop based on warranty? Hyundai and Kia have cheap vehicles and they advertise the ability to finance anyone regardless of their credit situation, which makes them very appealing up front to these people. Then they add in these awesome warranty plans making these customers think the automaker stands by their products and chooses one of their vehicles over something with a 3/36 powertrain warranty like VW.

My ex was one of these people. Makes little money, has a kid, needs reliable car because can't afford to miss work. Sees Hyundai's ability to finance her with her poor credit score at inflated interest with a 96 month term, making her payments seem affordably low. Then sees Hyundai offers 10/100 powertrain, and 3/36 bumper to bumper and feels comfortable knowing that the powertrain will be covered after her term is up granted she stays under 100k miles. She went with an Elantra GT they had well under MSRP and immediately started having problems. Their service manager always had reasons nothing was covered under the warranty. She then lost her job and had to trade the Elantra in for something that with a 96 month term would be around half the payment so she chose a base Veloster and again immediately had defects with the vehicle.

My anecdotal story out of the way people in poor financial states that want to make further financial mistakes by buying a new vehicle instead of buying a used 10 year old Camry are most definitely going to shop based on loan term length and warranties.

I do not hate Hyundai or Kia, infact I have thought about dumping the Abarth for a Veloster Rally or R-spec. My brother has one and loves it, and he traded in an Evo X for it. He made a financial compromise so his wife could go back to school and he doesn't regret his situation. His Veloster has a power steering rack issue and his local Hyuandai dealer covered it no questions asked, he is in Florida, my ex had these experiences in NEOH for whatever it is worth.

There's all kinds of wiggle room in the 5/60 and 10/100 warranties like shorter coverage for paint and stereos/nav units (I think Hyundai extended radio warranty to five years recently, it was 3)

I said that I don't really care about the warranty coverage length. I can't speak for others.

Most do for a couple of years (varies by brand). But most would not charge on a car so new and would take the time to find the leak instead of just declaring it mysteriously low. I called corporate for goodwill and they said ACs needed to be recharged more often in Texas since the system is worked harder here -- lost confidence at that exact moment.

Just had a Hyundai Sonata for a rental... nice enough car, comfortable, well-equipped but HOLY MOLY was it boring to drive. Totally numb and devoid of feeling. Makes a Camry (or even my car) seem like a sports car. Seriously. Would not recommend for purchasing because of that.

What does a Sonata have to do with Kia?

Sonata makes a Camry or HR-V feel like a sports car? I seriously doubt it.

Plenty of people are talking about Hyundai in this thread :roll eyes: They're sister companies.

Obviously an exaggeration on the sports car front - but the Sonata felt completely dead. Would choose the Camry in a heartbeat over it.

He's got a point, though - the Sonata and Optima do have distinctly different feels.

Also, can we please remember that this is a goddamn Vicelord thread?

My small addition to this thread, changed a windshield in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, from the factory they pretty much missed the pinchweld completely:

That would not pass crash tests, the windshield would likely pop out when the airbags went off, with less than 1/16" of urethane holding the glass in along most of the passenger side.
