I often see people driving brand new Kias and wonder to myself why they would buy it, to me it seems like incredibly bad purchase across the board. If you buy a Forte you're getting a car that is very comparable to its counterparts at an only slightly discounted price, resale value will suffer a tad. If you buy a K900 you get a car with far more features than similarly priced cars from larger brands but will be worth $4 and some pocket lint in a year.

So lets assume you bought a Kia, why did you buy it? how did you justify that purchase vs another comparable car in regards to price, availability, and features?

This is a serious question, please keep the insulting remarks to yourself. If you own a Kia and I just made you feel offended, please realize that is not my intention and you're actually the perfect person to be answering the question.
Let's argue this the American way; volume, proximity, and repetition.

I purchased a 2014 optima sx brand new. It was the beat bang for the buck. In the 30k miles I have taken it, it has been awesome 👍

I had a 2011 Optima (K VIN) for almost two years. Never any issues, only had to deodorize/clean the HVAC. My only complaint was the DI would ping a bit regardless what gas I used. I actually miss that car, not sure why I sold it.

So yes, I would buy a Kia.

If you want a car that's pretty good and pretty cheap and has a pretty long warranty.

Sounds like a pretty smart choice for many.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.

The long-ass warranty? They seemed to have stepped up their game in recent years also, still not sure if I'd buy one but some of the new stuff looks tempting. Still not sure why they need 2 different non-luxury brands in the US though.

I would purchase an Optima or Soul because I like them, no other reasons.

I actually considered looking at the Optima a few years ago before trading my Passat for a GLI; until I saw the price for the one I wanted. I think it was around $35k for the model I'd spec'd out online. I didn't bother looking in person after that. The quality of their cars has come such a long way (based on the Kia/Hyundai cars and vans I've detailed over the years), but I'm not sure I could personally buy one just based on the brand/price. If it were cheaper, quite possibly. For instance, their Cadenza seems to be a superb car (I only drove it in a driveway once) but for nearly $40k (or whatever price it was), I wouldn't consider it. I'd prefer a lower spec Audi for the price.

To sum up, in my opinion it's a great car in both looks and quality departments. Based on prices for higher trim levels, I don't see why people are so attracted to them (could be warranty).

Stuff in the middle of the lineup make sense. Loaded Optimas are pretty nice (we have a 2014 and it's a very nice car in and out). Cadenza and K900 though really do make my scratch my head. Lower end cars like the Rio are OK enough although I find the Forte 5's interior to be dreadful looking (just boring looking). So I'd say mid-level models equipped nicely are very nice but the lower end of the model lineup aren't desirable to me and the high-end models don't make much sense to me.

OK, so Kia gives an additional two years of warranty compared to the normal 3/36, that's something I didn't know until today.

As for 5/100 drivetrain warranties, I pretty much ignore those altogether since drivetrains rarely fail anymore. The parts that break on a car are electronic for the most part.

I'm also eagerly awaiting for them to make a decent EV. Nobody knows batter tech like the Koreans.

I guess if subjective aesthetic criteria were the only things that mattered, you'd have a point. KIA products do look nice.

But, they don't handle well, they don't have very refined powertrains, and long-term resale and reliability don't hold up. And, they really aren't any cheaper anymore.
