Up to you. I am converting to a carb setup for simplicity. Down the road, I may upgrade that to a self-tuning EFI setup.

If you change the shackle length to change the angle of the leaf spring, you can influence the roll-steer characteristics of the car. Most stock leaf spring vehicles have the front eye of the spring lower than the rear eye, this is the safer configuration because it causes roll understeer. When that particular side is compressed, that wheel moves forward in the wheel well and pivots about the horizontal axis (remember its a solid axle so its tied to the other wheel on the other side) so that it toes in.

If you "shackle up" the rear by lengthening the rear shackle, the rear leaf spring eye drops in relation to the front eye, reducing the amount of roll understeer, or possibly even adding roll oversteer. Basically, it makes the handling feel sportier but more "dangerous". The other thing that is done is to relocate the front spring mounts up an inch, it has a similar effect but lowers ride height instead of raising it.

Check this link, its pretty interesting how they made these older, simpler cars handle well despite leaf springs and solid axles:

What are you doing for a transmission? Mounts, controller, etc?

I'm using the 4L80-E from my donor van. I will need to make a modification to my stock trans crossmember for the mount to line up, but that will be a simple operation. I plan to buy a TCI EZ-TCU standalone controller to operate it.

      This is pretty cool info.

No radio. Just gauges in an aluminum mounting plate.

So, as we were pulling the engine, there were the "washers" used on the chrome fan guard.

You also have 3/4- and 1-ton vans to be able to source the 6.0 and 4L80E, just in case 2500HD's are out of your reach

      I found a package deal for a 6.0L (LQ4, I believe)a rebuilt 4L65, standalone harness and tuned ECU.

It should be shipped in a couple of weeks! I'm pumped!

Yeah, it should be pretty snappy. I imagine it will make a healthy 350HP, get better fuel mileage and be a cross country driver, should I opt to take an epic road trip.

I hear ya. Once I get my Grand Prix running with the 454, I am dying to go get a photo of it parked in front of this church:

Starting to get real. I'll be ordering motor mounts, headers and a trans cross member today.

This is awesome. The car I learned to drive stick on was my Mom's 98 z28 when I was 15. While far less bitchin than your example, lighting up those 275s or whatever they were was so ****ing fun.
I've got a lot of interest in pretty much all generations of the Camaro.

Its got a stock computer, but modified for tune and removal of VATS, EGR and downstream O2's.
