Yeah, '02s are exceptionally well balanced to the point of being able to change the attitude of the car mid-turn. I never tossed mine around in the snow, but I sure wish I had!

We had nothing but trouble with a customer's E-Type we did a triple DCOE conversion on, the transfer ports were in different places on each carb - it was nearly impossible to get it to run at anything less than full throttle. Italian made DCOE's never had that sort of issue - I mean, they always dump a lot of fuel and require a good deal of throttle blippery, but they would at least run.
I've seen the same issues with old Italian made Webers. They have always been a bitch to set up and tune but once you get them set in you almost never have to adjust them. Newer VW heads like to run Dellorto's or Mikunis sidedrafts as the set up is easier but more routine tuning is required to keep them purring.

Italian made Webers tend to have poor casting quality as evidenced with all of the cracked tabs. I rarely see a set come up for sale without them and when they do the price is astronomical.

At this point with my ccar I'm willing to take a chance on a newer 38 DGES for $299 with linkages included to get similar performance to the dual side drafts that will cost close to $1,200 before you set them up and sync them. Just my personal preferance.

AFAIK the DCO are some crazy foreign words from a country that once sided with Nazi's that means two barrel sidedraft and the E means actually designates that it has a trapezoidal bolt pattern to mount it vs a rectangle mounting pattern of a standard DCO.

I believe* that the DCOE also has a choke but the DCO doesn't, similar to the situation you have with an IDA vs IDF although there is more differences there than just chokes, but for purposes of this discussion...

You've just been emulsified in use(ful)less Weber information.

Hmmmmm. I'll have to take a look at my old 38 DCO that I have somewhere. Thanks for the useful info!

E9 showed up today. its also rougher than we expected. boss is still deciding on what to do with it. body work was done poorly (not expecting that) and when it was being towed the seat belt came out the rear window and beat up the paint. but god damn its gorgeous. we also think its #8 built of that production year

Black fenders = Pandora's box of old rust repairs.

If it starts and runs it'll bring $8-12k on eBay.

My lust for an E9/E10s grows more and more each day. Hopefully this summer I'll have 20k to blow on a pristine one.

BTW read "memoirs of a hack mechanic" if you havn't yet. Amazing read!

If that E9 is rough I will never show photos of my 2002. That car looks very clean compared to some of the rust buckets out there. How bad is the underside of the body?

That's a fantastic book. Rob signed one of my copies, and he posts frequently on the E9 forums. Super cool guy.

That's the problem with E9's. They rust from the inside out, and by time you see a lot of it, they're really bad.

and today i got the washer fluid working (no more hand held pressure bottle woooooo!) swapped out my bugeye turns for early smooth turns. they make a hell of a visual difference, swapped in another set of used better rear shocks and rebuild my carb that somehow came loose and split in half and back the main jet out

and currently shopping around for some horsepower me and my buddy with the 68 are thinking about taking the 75 shell and putting the rotary in it and keeping it stripped out to make it as light as possible, glass front and rear windshield and lexan the other windows, no dash just the essential gauges, half or a full cage, two seats, fiberglass wide body, fuel cell and upgrade the brakes/suspension. hoping for a 300whp+ car that weighs 2000-2100lbs.

Definitely looks like fun in the snow!

And keep an eye on those Bottletop alloys you have on the rear... wouldn't want them to go missing or anything.

Also, depending on how wide you want to go for a widebody - Ireland Engineering does a whole selection of Alpina-Style fiberglass fenders ("Pig cheeks") and fiberglass decklids and even a fiberglass dash "shell" for racing.
