is this some sort of in-joke I am not aware of?

First of all the car has HIDs, second of all, who cares about HIDs anyway?
The good news: I gave up on being one of the cool kids!

I once new a kid who only cared to collect Jose Canseco baseball cards. I guess he grew up and moved on to semi annoying fancy looking headlights.

I thought the BRZ would get a different front fascia

And with all the extra equipment it will be heavier than the Scion. 0-60 would still hover around 7.2 to 7.7. You might as well save your money and wait for the upcoming Sti Twin-turbo BRZ.

      Base 2002 WRX Price: $23,495
Base 2002 MR Spyder Price: $23,735

I can't be the only one that thinks, as a package, that these cars are screaming sports car bargains; can I?

HID, Navi, and bluetooth standard on a 25k rwd sporty car? Hard to beat.

      Not to mention inflation:

What cost $23495 in 2002 would cost $28303.35 in 2010

What cost $23735 in 2002 would cost $28592.47 in 2010

No. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally I think the pricing is d@mn good.

How much can they deal? Sticker on a base car is $31,900 and invoice is $29,900. That's still a solid $4000 over sticker price of a base BRZ and the BRZ gives you not only better economy, but a miniscule backseat as well.

If a dealer tacks a stupid $5k surgcharge on the Subaru, or you find a less than 1 year old Z at a screaming deal bringing prices more comparable that is a different discussion.

I'm actually surprised the Scion version is priced so closely to the Subaru version given the Subarus additional content.

Shoot, my '89 944 base model stickered for almost 35k in 1989. Freaking crazy.

This is a god damned steal for the type of lulz it will produce.

Premium has the knobs, Limited gets the dual-zone.

Now add on ~5-6k to each of those for inflation.

I can't believe you guys are dicking around and arguing about climate control knobs, trunk liners, sat nav and HID headlamps. That stuff will get ripped out immediately anyway, so what's the big deal.

The BRZ is supposed to be a track focused car. I'd just wait 5-6 years to get a used one, rip out all the interior junk and build it as a dedicated track car.

Some people won't rip that out. I'd love to have fun in my BRZ (should I ever get one), but I'd also like to have creature comforts, a.k.a climate control, sat nav, and HIDs.

99% of people are not going to spend $28k on a new car and then rip everything out of it. not all of us are race cars drivers who don't need an interior like you.

Something's wrong with their rating of the engine then... only a 9lb/ft loss AND through RWD?
