Is it true that you need to remove the front clip to access the alternator or is there some other way? The bearings sound like they have decided to die...

pretty much any work on the B5/B5.5 with the 2.7T requires major teardown due to it being crammed into the bay so tightly.

sure is true for the S4... but you say you have the A6

      S4 pictured

Is this also true for the larger A6?

      Lies.

VAST performance changed the alternator on my S4 in about half an hour without moving a thing but the belly pan.

      It can be done.

      thanks.

You and VAST get the smart vote for today.

So many procedures on that car say take off front bumper. I don't know how I couldn't have overlooked coming in from below with belly pan off.

Sometimes, all these baffles/plastic panels get in the way of my thinking process

I figured as much but everything online said to remove the clip.
