ok.. so it's giving codes for multiple misfire and misfire cylinder 3. i did some reading and saw that this could be caused by the ignition control module, or the ignition coils.

the ignition coils i understand how to service, however i cannot find the ignition control module. i removed the airbox beauty cover and i don't see it there, which is where i thought it would be.. ?

also, on ECS they list an ignition control module that supposedly works for all 1.8t's, however on GAP they say this is only for 98-99 with AEB engine code ECS also lists a plethora of different ignition coils.

car is a 4motion if it makes any difference.

can someone please steer me in the right direction?

      gotcha..

well.. so can it really only be the coilpacks? it happened suddenly BTW.
she was driving to work, and got within sight of where she works and all of a sudden the CEL flashed and the engine was shaking from misfire... she pulled over and called me, i told her to drive the maybe .25 to .5 mile to where she worked and when i scanned it a few hours later, cleared the codes and scanned it again, it came up with the codes listed above: cyl 3 misfire and multiple misfire

      Yep
Buy a set of 4 and keep the others as spare .
I know there is a recall in US for there , maybe ring a dealer get them to check your vin to see if your car is affected ?

thanks guys.. it is the coilpacks.

i switched the coil on cyl 3 to cyl 1 and got the same code on that cyl.
i contacted the dealership.. we'll see.
