I came across these 3 antique fireplace mantels and I'm thinking about selling them - how much should I ask?

OR - anyone interested in buying these? Make me an offer. (Dimensions available)

You could probably sell them for whatever you want if you were to sand them and stain them.

I don't know about those but Antique mantels around here are in serious demand and go for thousands of pounds.

A huge local house owned by the council was closed and for sale ready to be converted to a hotel, well somehow somebody got around the huge 10 foot fence and into the main drive which is clear to the main road and stole 8 sold marble fire places, around 150 years old. Estimated value $120k.

The ppl who bought my pops house restored it to its original style and bought an original 100 year old marble fireplace and paid around $10k for it.

Should be worth at least a few hundred bucks if you restore them nicely.

      interesting - thanks.

ideally i'd love to sand these down and clean em up but I just don't have the time. most likely i'll sell as is.

hard to believe but neverthe less a MARBLE fireplace would go for $2K+.

A wood painted mantel even 200 years old would be hard to pay more then $500 for. You can have replicas ordered for $200+

I guess different markets and appreciation. If a home here has an original it makes it much more valuable.

Worth way more than a couple of hundred bucks whether or not a replica goes for the same price. Look up batchelder tiles/fireplaces. You've got tile pieces selling for sometimes a couple of hundred dollars but you can get replicas for much less. To a true collector or someone looking to restore an old home you'll get paid.

I've seen antique mantles in local antique shops ranging from $300 to $750. The older and better shape, the more expensive, naturally. I think you could get into that range for yours, but the ones I saw looked older/more ornate.

I had an antique shop offer me 1,000 for the 3 so I took it. Thanks for the insite!

There is an antique place close to me, used to visit it everyday when i worked beside it. They sold everything from doors to door knobs , windows to window boxes. They had tons of really amazing things. They would usually have about 5 or so mantels for sale at a time and they would be going for around 900.00 a piece. Some not even as nice as yours.

That's how you do it. Resist the curious urge to go back to the shop.

there's a store in this area called "old bostonian" my parents had bought mantels from them when i was young, stripped them down and refinished them and put them in their home. i remember going there as a youngster, and it was very interesting. the place is still in business, and they still have mantels and other objects as well. perhaps you can get in touch with them for an idea of how much antique mantels will go for? they should know.
