Looks like most of the big names got 4.2FSI's but the others "chose" 3.0TDI's. 3.0TDI would be sweet, especially if they offered it in the US but it seems a little bit![]()

More details of David Beckham's new Q7 from Audi are filtering out through various news outlets. From the Daily Record.co.uk
Quote » Beckham, 30, landed a posh Audi Q7 4x4 with £20,000 worth of extras - then took it for a spin on a race track. Real Madrid's 23 star players each get an Audi every year as part of the club's sponsorship deal with the car manufacturer.
The England skipper opted for a 4.2FSI in phantom black with pearl-effect paintwork, black leather interior, car phone, flat screen television, Bose stereo, satellite navigation and a keyless entry and starting system.
Beckham then tested the 154mph motor on a specially built dirt-course in Madrid, driving French star Zinedine Zidane, 33, and Italian striker Antonio Cassano, 23, round the track - under the watchful eye of an instructor.
A Real Madrid source said: "It is a specially constructed track near our training ground, with ramps and plenty of steep descents to make it challenging.
from the Mirror.co.uk
Quote » An Audi source confirmed: "David asked for just about every extra possible, bumping the price up by £20,000. "It includes a top-ofthe- range alarm, so hopefully it won't be stolen."
Yesterday the Daily Mirror told how the England skipper had had two BMWs stolen in just five months.

That's total garbage. Why do these guys deserve free cars... they're already famous and have lots of money. Congrats to them, but I'll take my free Q 7 now![]()

because by giving you a Q7 Audi wouldn't be able to score the free advertisment given to them by having that many "famous" players driving their cars.

such is the life of a world footballer...

Because TDI is a more sensible engine choice in Europe than gassers.

well, its definetly some good publicity. And cheap I do suppose. From what I'm gathering from the Audi-USA site, a fully decked out Q7 is like 65,000 dollars american. 23 * 65000 = A million and a half. Now It costs a lot of money to put ads in papers, and magazines and you can't buy the type of loyalty that some people have to Real Madrid...
Now I know that not everyone got the top of the line model with all the options. And to Audi, theyre worth a lot less than retail to them. So I'd say they actually got quite a bargain on a sweet advertising deal.

It costs Audi even less per year since the players must turn in their Q7s each year for a new one. That means the $1.5 Mil is a one time largely recoverable cost and, assuming 25% depreciation on the 1 year old Q7s, 25% x $1.5 Mil = $375,000 per year - which is pocket change to Audi advertising.
For those of you who may think the 25% drop in value is too small, I would ask: Might someone in Europe pay more than regular market value if they were buying Beckam's Q7? Perhaps even more than MSRP? Remember those Madrid fans are rabid.

Audi advertising is dumb like a Fox.

also rember audi dont pay 60k for a Q7. they get them at cost so once they have sold them on 2nd hand it probably dosent cost them much at all.
As for any real madrid player needing a diesel even in europe they idea is ridiculas with the mental wages they earn.

Good point. Without dealer markup (say 10%) and manufacturer's profit (say another 10%) the initial out of pocket comes down to about $1.0mil and the annual cost down to about $300,000. And that assumes they only get regualr market value for the used Q7's.Reminds me of the new cars lent (for free) to golf pros during tournaments.....

I just wanted to add that in Europe, driving a diesel vehicle requires a special mentality, much different from the one on the US diesel owners. Diesel in Europe is king. The germans make the best diesels out there and its really about choosing one technology over the other. In this particular case, its really not a matter of saving money from gas. Its about driving a diesel. You really need to be in europe to understand it better.

Agree 100%. In fact I am a TDI fan hoping that VWoA decides to bring into the U.S. market the particulate filter equipped B6s early in model year 2008 based partially on the 4th quarter anticipated widespread (largely mandatory) availablity of ULSD [< 15 ppm ] in the American market. In other words, if you like better fuel economy, more torque, longer engine life, no spark plugs, higher resale value, DIESELS RULE!
For those who don't like such things, well....just nevermind.
