Abt Sportsline’s motto in motor sport is driving without compromises. This philosophy also applies for their state-of-the-art tuning concepts. At the IAA 2005 in Frankfurt Abt is now presenting a model where compromises will definitely not be accepted. The vehicle’s title is Abt Sportback AS3-R and delivers an output of 300 HP.

The new Sportback AS3-R is no diplomat but an ambitious athlete. This is also clearly expressed by the abbreviation »R« which stands for Racing. Heartbeat emotions are created when the 300 HP of the Abt model are freed. Following an intensive research and test programme, the Abt engineers have developed a power upgrade on the basis of the 2.0 litre TFSI Turbo quattro engine resulting in 300 HP and a maximum torque of 370 Nm. The kit which consists of a modified motor management, Abt turbo charger and a 4-pipe rear muffler is responsible for the power increase of 100 HP and 90 Nm compared to the standard model. The dates of the Sportback AS3-R are accordingly uncompromising. It races from 0 - 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 260 km/h.

I keep reading that line and I can't seem to understand it. I haven't heard the term "quattro" ever used in reference to an engine. I assume it is simply a car equipped with quattro but I could be mistaken.

Can someone please slap some sense into me? I know I'm not reading something right.

Yeah, you're not the only one. I was wondering the same thing.

Wow I love those rims, and everything else too.

I think George just poorly worded it, common format is to put quattro after engine if the car is quattro equipped or even just a simple Q. TC 2K+ posts and this is confusing you now (jkin)

Yeah, talking of a 2.0T quattro spec car, not the engine. Abt is a German company and as such the person writing this release probably didn't take English as a first language.

To clarify, if any of our articles say "source: Abt Sportsline (or any other company for that matter), then it's a press release from that company and not written by our staff. Generally, we run these as we receive them, and depending who wrote them, they can use all sorts of variances on the English language. The Brits have their nuances, and English speaking Germans (the case in this situation) probably have their own word usage that can be confusing for us.

I would have thought it would be a little faster than 0-62 MPH in 5.9. I mean that's still fast, but with 300 HP it seems slow.

I really like the new ABT wheels.

I would have to agree. The Subaru WRX STI has 300hp and it rips 0-60 in 4.8.

    Something seems off....

Well one would be that that the A3 is much heavier, but it has to be more than that.

I would have thought the same, but actually, according to both manufacturers, the WRX STI (2006 model) is 3351lbs and the A3 (manual) is 3263lbs.

If you add roughly 150lbs to add quattro to the A3, it would still put both cars within 75 pounds of each other....

I pretty sure the 03-05 STi was 3086lbs, does the 06 weigh that much more.

Conservative rating of 300Hp and full rpm clutch dumps on a slick awd Subee makes for a quick zero to sixty.

Maybe the guys doing the testing had just come from the brew pub.

Aren't the 225/35/19's overall diameter a little off (small) compared to 225/45/17s?
