      trans

It would sound like a worn or cracked synchro. Flushing wont work, it has to be removed opened up and verified.

      trans

More than likely the over center spring inside the trans broke. If it breaks then reverse gear and 1st gear tries to rub each other which give you the noise. Got to open it up to repair the issue.

Try bleeding bleeding the master cylinder first, cap it off, then fill the slave cylinder slowly...slowly so the fluid can go in and the air come out. Now connect the line and finish bleeding it...

      noise

      Need more info.
That noise almost sound like the exhaust manifold heat shields or a loose converter.
Did you try to isolate the noise to the trans?

      trans

Is this noise a constant click/tap while in that particular gear?
Or is it a click as you shift into a gear?
It sounds like a bearing issue or possibly a broken / tooth on the ring or pinion.
    8. trans

The 2 trans internals are different and wont work.
Better you use a 4 cylinder 02A bellhousing on the VR trans.
Then you will also need the other parts... Flywheel, clutch, slave and master cyl....

      trans

Any one that exceeds the spec is good.
If only you could atleast put a bolt kit in this trans and strengthen up the the diff roll pin that would make it better.

Most of the speed bump issues I see especially when too low is damaged oil pand and a piece of the bellhousing cracked or missing.
That damage can be from the clutch assembly or the cross shaft in...

It appears to have been heated to be remove or it could have been heated being driven without gear oil. Check the teeth.
If its the only set you have no choice... Install it and spin the trans over...

Small amount of heat can help out. But do now warp it.
A small wooden box for support and an air hammer with a straight tip can work also.

      Mr. Loops is correct.
Also on some Mk3 020 trans the date and trans code can be etced on the bellhousing side across from the selector shaft in case you dont see it on the bottom.

      trans

Did the trans ever grind before all this happened going into 2ND gear?
The fine tooth synchro sleeve on 1st / 2nd might be going bad.

That circled area should have a ball on it. It fell off over time due to heat from the dowm pipe. Just buy a new one.

      the fork

What about the clutch fork? Can it be bending while the pedal is down?
You might want to try an older slave cylinder from an 02A trans like the G60.@
